Class Descriptions

All Classes

No temper or escalation of sparring will be tolerated. Upon the event of any perceived escalation, lack of control, lack of respect, lack of consideration or disrespect, the student(s) will be warned. Upon a second warning, the student(s) will not be allowed to continue sparring for that class. Upon a third occurrence, the student(s) will be removed from the school.

Cardio

We expect students to perform the majority of their cardio work outside of class. We are partnered with Ultimate Kickboxing & Fitness, which is a cardio kickboxing facility. We recommend adding a good cardio regimen to your training. Students who are members of The Training Ground may enroll in the Cardio Kickboxing classes at a reduced rate. This allows MMA students to be able to train cardio kickboxing either before or after a MMA class and Cardio/Aerobic Kickboxing classes are available 7 days a week.

Striking

Striking classes are a combination of western-style boxing, kickboxing and Muay Thai. All striking classes are taught with the consideration that a fight may go to the ground. We use Thai pads mostly to go over technique and to do drills with. Students must have proper equipment to be able to participate in these classes. Equipment includes headgear, mouthpiece, groin protection, shinguards, handwraps and gloves. We require 16 oz. boxing gloves for sparring. All sparring is light contact unless otherwise agreed upon by the two students and approved by the instructor.

Grappling and Jiu Jitsu

Grappling is based upon Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as it applys to Mixed Martial Arts. Our grappling classes are no-gi and have no belt ranking system, nor is our system standardized.

Our classes are available for both male and female. Any inappropriate sexual behavior, comments or actions will not be tolerated. In some cases students may be under the age of 18 in an adult class. Senior students are expected to assist junior students (less than 6 mos. training). All adult students are expected to show consideration for the safety and well-being of any students who are minors. Since classes are predominatly male, men are expected to show special consideration and respect for female students.

Open Mat

Open Mat is mostly a sparring class with less formality than a regular class. Friday's are usually open mat classes. This class is good to work on whatever the student feels he is weak at or having trouble with. Private instruction is available in open mat classes as well.

MMA

Our MMA class on Saturday is mostly sparring with grappling gloves. We spar at about 50 to 60% for 3 min. rounds. This Saturday MMA class also includes additional cardio and instruction as it is a little longer than the regular classes. Sparring in these classes means full contact to the head and body. For the safety of our fighters we start on our knees, but strikes to the face are allowed. No elbows are allowed, no knees to the head, no twisting submissions as heel hooks are allowed except for senior/advanced students.

Saturdays are also reserved for special events, guest instructors and seminars. We have various professional fighters, BJJ instructors and/or special events on Saturdays.
